Ohio NRCS received Federal dollars in 2000 and 2001 to pilot a dam rehabilitation program. Three watershed dams needing upgrading and/or repair were selected for the program in 2000. Two of the dams are being upgraded to meet current high hazard criteria by enlarging the emergency spillways. One of the dams will have the high hazard condition reduced to medium hazard by relocating two houses and controlling the downstream flood area from future development.

Major repairs are being performed on one of the principal spillways and sediment removed from two of the reservoirs.

In 2001, four additional dams were selected for rehabilitation and are currently in the planning stage.

This presentation details the replanning process that was followed to address the local sponsor needs and concerns. Numerous alternatives, both structural and non-structural, were developed and will be described. Final designs and cost estimates will be presented and lessons learned will be discussed.
