The Dynamic and Stochastic Simulation of Grain Storage Facilities

The objective of this work was to develop a simulation tool for performing the dynamic and stochastic analysis of grain storage facility systems. This tool was implemented using ExtendTM, a discrete event and continuous simulation application. It was created a library called Grain Facility. This library has a set of blocks that allows simulating (i) receiving and dispatching activities, (ii) grain processing unit operations, (iii) operational decisions, and (iv) electrical and heating energy consumption. To demonstrate the Grain Facility library use was modeled a grain storage facility that received 73,473.00 tonnes of raw products. Simulated results show that: (i) after processing unit operations was obtained cleaned and dried 12,205.02; 47,451.81 and 4,356.88 tonnes of corn, soybean and wheat, respectively, (ii) the maximum amount of product stored occurred in April when the final monthly balance realized 14,409.20 tonnes of soybean, (iii) the amount of firewood spent at drying operation totalized 766.02 tonnes when specific uses were 27.0, 13.0 and 16.0 kg of firewood per tonnes of corn, soybean and wheat, respectively, and (iv) the total electrical energy used capacity was 181.98 MWh, and 34.78% of that was used at drying sector.
