Experiments were conducted to study the opportunity of increase of efficiency of seed
separation in gravity separator. A complex of physical characteristics of cereal seeds sorted by a
gravity separator has been studied. The attributes (physical properties of seed) of gravity separation
in fluidized bed were found by using the mathematical method of pattern recognition. These data
were used for development of fractional technologies used for separation of difficult divided seed
mixture. The separating of an initial seed mixture by indented cylinder on two fractions and
processing of each fraction on gravity separator enables to increase efficiency of seed separation on
1015 %.
A new version of a Gravity Separator has been developed to classify components of a seed mixture
mainly according to density or to specific gravity of the components. Of the various gravity machines,
the most widely used is the separator with a trapeziform deck. The process of separation on
gravitational separators with the trapeziform deck is characterized by low specific seed loading on a
deck 0.6-1.2 kgm-2c-1 ,as well as high specific electric power consumption 2,23 kWh/t. The
developed new Gravity Separator with a rectangular deck allow to increase the specific seed loading
in 23 times, as well as to decrease the specific electric power consumption in 1,52 times in
comparison with existing analogues. The optimum parameters of new Gravity Separators with the
rectangular deck were determined.
