On-the-Go Sensing for Site-Specific Nitrogen Top DressingPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 021113, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.9686) @2002Authors: Heege, Hermann J., Thiessen, Eiko Keywords: Optical Sensor, Reflectance, Point of Inflection, Fluorescence Signals, Chlorophyll, Leaf-Area-Index, Nitrogen Top Dressing The control of nitrogen top dressing by optical sensing of crop reflectance or -fluorescence is dealt with. Reflectance sensing using the point of inflection in the red-infrared range is based on the chlorophyll-concentration in the leaves as well as on the leaf-area-index. Fluorescence sensing depends only on the chlorophyll-concentration in the leaves. Therefore reflectance signals are better suited for sensing the nitrogen supply. However, fluorescence signals should be explored for indicating the crop stress. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
