Simulation of Soil Resistance at Plate Penetration by the Distinct Element MethodPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 023046, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.9623) @2002Authors: Takeshi Shikanai, Masami Ueno Keywords: DEM, Plate penetration test, Soil deformation A plate sinkage problem was studied numerically to analyze the trafficabitity on farm lands. A plate penetration was modeled using the Distinct Element Method (DEM). In the DEM, soil was modeled on aggregation of the separated particles. In order to investigate the actual phenomenon of vehicle sinkage, the plate was penetrated not only with a vertical angle but also with an inclined angle. From the results, the mechanical model of the plate penetration into soil by the DEM was able to simulate the deformation of soil well. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
