Hyperbolic relationship is used for many engineering problems such as stress-strain relationship of soil and consolidation of soft soil. In this study, the outlier characteristics of linear regression of the hyperbolic method for ultimate settlement estimation were examined using studentized residual method as an outlier detection method. It was found that conventional outlier detection procedure is not satisfactory. A new regression procedure based on outliers and suitable range selection was proposed. The proposed method predicts nearly exact asymptotic value of hyperbola. The method can be applied on engineering problems, which are described by a hyperbolic model.
