Two distance education courses were developed for graduate level students and intended primarily for K-12 teachers. These courses offered the students the information and the continuing education credits that they needed. Both courses were easily transferable to a more traditional Extension audience. Developing these courses for distance education can be time consuming but there are many benefits to the students and developers. The subsequent adoption of the materials for other audiences (e.g., www.agriculture.purdue.edu/agbiotech/) expands the value of the time spent in development and is exactly the outreach that the Cooperative Extension Service was intended to provide to citizens.
