An attempt was made to create a favorable environment at the operators workplace according to their needs considering the requirements and likeness of the Indian tractor operators. A collapsible tractor operator enclosure (CTOE) was developed to reduce environmental stress (from solar radiation, cold, humidity, rain and dust). To reduce the stresses from tractor system, operators control locations were optimized to the physical needs of the Indian farm operators. Different positions of CTOE were tested during field operation and transportation. The results indicated that for every environmental condition, one or more positions of CTOE were suitable in providing comfort. To optimize the control location and orientation, experiments were conducted in a laboratory-simulated condition by measuring force application, physiological parameters including comfort rating. The parameters were analyzed with the help of TABLE CURVE 3D and MATLAB software packages and the results were incorporated to develop an all season enclosure with optimized location of controls suitable for Indian operators.
