In the case of tormented orography the use of forestal tractors and specific machines for forestal works is often difficult; thus in a number of cases the phases of logging are still carried out by animals help. This paper starts by reporting the operating results recorded at two work-chain which envisaged the thinning of high forest of pine and beech.

The processing of the experimental data obtained shows that, where integral mechanisation is not possible, animals can still compete and/or co-operate with machinery especially in forests where conditions are not optimal and can be advantageous also in environmental terms.
