A numerical model of the insect movement and distribution in a stored grain bin was developed by combining a three-dimensional, finite element model of heat transfer with models of movement of adult Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens). The distribution-function method was used to develop regression equations of insect distribution for different temperature ranges with or without temperature gradients in both vertical and horizontal directions. The theory and method of coupling these two models was introduced in this paper. The model was coded in Visual C++ giving users graphical interfaces for input and output. An improved mesh generation method was coupled in the computer program to enable the user to select their desired input data such as bin diameter (from 0 to 12 m) and height (from 0 to 12m). The model predicted temperatures and insect distribution in both vertical and horizontal directions.
