Computer Application in Estimation of EvapotranspirationPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Pp. 864-870 in Proceedings of the World Congress of Computers in Agriculture and Natural Resources (13-15, March 2002, Iguacu Falls, Brazil) 701P0301.(doi:10.13031/2013.8421)Authors: S.R. Bhakar and Raj. Vir Singh Keywords: Evapotranspiration, Water management Evapotranspiration, which includes evaporation of water from lands and water surfaces and transpiration by vegetation, continues to be of foremost importance in water resources planning and management. Estimation of evapotranspiration can be obtained by multiplying a crop coefficient to reference evapotranspiration using readily available climatic data. Penman-Monteith equation is adopted world wide as the most reliable and accurate method for computing reference evapotranspiration. Computer facilitates the use of Penman-Monteith equation because involvement of various parameters and steps in computation of reference evapotranspiration. The application of computer in estimation of reference evapotranspiration is highlighted, by using climatic data of Udaipur weather station. A comparison of estimated evapotranspiration with measured evapotranspiration of wheat and green gram crops is also made under climatic conditions of Udaipur. The values of crop evapotranspiration were found to be different for wheat and green gram. Total measured wheat evapotranspiration was 277 mm for whole season while the estimated wheat evapotranspiration was 201 mm. The seasonal measured green gram evapotranspiration was 515 mm while the estimated green gram evapotranspiration was 456 mm. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
