MIA is a model and an associated information server for the agricultural and forestry sector in Mexico. All institutions within this sector produce information revealing the behavior of actions and of production technology. In spite of its volume and different presentation formats, some means for the unification and adequate transfer of information are required. The MIA model proposed herein contributes to gathering, disseminating and applying information with nation-wide coverage. MIA-Server offers value added by supporting quality information; it is innovative due to its design customized to the Mexican milieu and not based on independently generated disaggregated solutions. The design follows a functional approach, not tied to any predefined tools or solutions. Thus, it is capable of incorporating new services based on emerging technologies. The paper highlights the conceptual schema design. The MIA training program is also outlined.
