Visualization of Environment by VRMLPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Pp. 561-567 in Proceedings of the World Congress of Computers in Agriculture and Natural Resources (13-15, March 2002, Iguacu Falls, Brazil) 701P0301.(doi:10.13031/2013.8381)Authors: T. Honjo and E. Lim Keywords: Computer graphics, greenhouse, virtual Reality, visualization, VRML VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is a high performance language for 3-D visualization on the WWW (World Wide Web). Three-dimensional information can be easily transferred through the Internet by VRML. In this study, we made a visualization system for landscape and greenhouse that enables virtual experience in a planned environment by using VRML and the applicability of the system to the environmental design was shown. To perform real time rendering, a plant was expressed by using 2 textured planes instead of thousands of polygons. Plants were placed automatically on a textured terrain or tables based on the plant database by the system developed in this study. With the system, we made models of landscape and greenhouse and walk-through simulations were tested. The system showed good performance and it also indicated the potential of VRML systems. The information on the virtual environment can be placed on WWW. This method can be utilized both for the design of and for the public discussion on environmental planning.
