The Use of EID (Electronic Identification) for Understanding Female Broiler Breeders Behavior in Two Different Housing Solar Orientation

Highest female breeder productivity is usually found within a housing environment according to the thermoneutral zone range of temperature and humidity. Breeders housing must then provide an interior environment that meet the birds thermal comfort needs. Monitoring the breeders behavior can be an useful tool in order to evaluated the inside environment. The EID (Electronic Identification) is based upon the use of electronic devices to detect and record a code or a number ID. In order to make the communication feasible between the parts involved in the ID response an specific microchip named transponder needed to be annexed to the ID target. This research had the objective of recording and understanding the breeders behavior and relates their behavior to the environment characteristics using telemetry in small scale model housing in two different solar orientation. Six female breeders were used in the models and they all had a transponder implanted. Four readers were used to record they movement within the small scale housing placed on: nest, drinker, feeder and wall. The environmental parameters measured were: dry, wet bulb and black globe temperatures. For recording the environmental data a datalogger was used. Data were compared and the breeders behavioral pattern according to environmental characteristics was determined.
