Computational Fluid Dynamics and Glasshouse ResearchPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Pp. 175-182 in Proceedings of the World Congress of Computers in Agriculture and Natural Resources (13-15, March 2002, Iguacu Falls, Brazil) 701P0301.(doi:10.13031/2013.8327)Authors: S. Reichrath and T.W. Davies Keywords: CFD, multi-span glasshouse, Venlo-type, internal climate The subject of this paper is the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the modelling of the internal climate of a commercial multi-span Venlo-type glasshouse containing tomato crops. The step-by-step process to build a comprehensive glasshouse model is summarised and examples of typical results are presented. A good agreement of predictions with available experimental data was found. Along with the latest results from the authors leading edge research programme, the aim of which is the development of a fully three-dimensional model of a full-scale commercial multi-span Venlo-type glasshouse, the future of CFD in glasshouse research is briefly discussed.
