Modeling to Assess Proposed Agricultural Systems Ability to Meet Kansas TMDLsPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Pp. 280-280 in Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Environmental Regulations: Proceedings of the March 11-13, 2002 Conference, (Fort Worth, Texas, USA) 701P0102.(doi:10.13031/2013.7569)Authors: Q. Tang and P. L. Barnes To better assess agriculture non-point pollution, a modeling project was used to assess proposed Best Management Practices recommended meeting total maximum daily loading requirements for the Black Vermillion watershed in Kansas. The newly released AGNPS 2001 model has been employed to simulate current conditions and different scenarios to analyze water quality practices for this watershed. AGNPS 2001 is an annually based model that is different from the original event based AGNPS. Input data must be transferred from GIS to an AnnAGNPS format. Model calibration was performed by comparing field water quality data and modeled results. A forecast of future water quality will be based on runoff losses of sediments, nutrients, and pesticides in the Black Vermillion watershed. Best management practices will be compared to find a system of practices that is economic, practical to use, and will meet the current Kansas TMDL impairments. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
