With the flat-belt tyre test stand of the University of Hohenheim the influence of water ballasting on the spring and damping characteristics of agricultural tyres was investigated. In several series of test runs the noncircularity, the spring and damping parameters and the resonance frequency have been determined.

The water-filled tyres show a reduced noncircularity through the higher inertia of the ballasting. The stiffness of the tyre is enlarged due to the reduced volume of compressible air. For the damping no clear tendency is to be seen. With the increased stiffness of the water-filled tyre, the resonance frequency and therefore the critical speed is moved towards higher speeds.
