Design and Experiment of Clamping Device for Grafting Rootstock of Melon Vegetables

Abstract. In response to the question of rootstock damage caused by mechanical clamping and affecting the survival rate of grafting, this paper designed a suction type rootstock clamping device. The device used air suction to replace artificial seedlings, and was operationally simple. Moreover, Flexible components were designed in the clamping device to realize low damage clamping. To obtain optimum structural parameters, the self-made clamping device was studied. Taking rootstock clamping success rate and damage rate as test indicators, suction hole diameter, negative pressure value, and clamping block surface inclination angle as test factors, a three-factor three-level orthogonal experiment was conducted. The experiment had obtained the optimal parameter combination of the clamping device: the diameter of the suction hole was 2.5 mm, the negative pressure value was 6 kPa, and the surface inclination angle of the clamping block was 10°. The overall success rate under this parameter combination was 98.33% with no damage, which meet the grafting requirements. This study serves as a reference base for design and research of grafting clamping device.
