Abstract. Soil-root complex can be regarded as reinforced soil, where soil is the matrix phase of the complex. Plant root is a flexible reinforced material, which is the reinforcement phase of the complex and plays an important role in strengthening soil. The boundary between the two is the interface phase. Soil-root composite can also be considered as a natural composite, or a fiber reinforced composite. The properties of soil-root composite can be explored by fiber reinforced composite research methods.
