Design and experiment of an automatic separating and embedding machine for rice potted-seedling tray

Abstract. Rice is an important food crop in China with a large planting area. In order to solve the problem of rice potted-seedling production line failing to achieve full automation, especially the separation and supply of potted-seedling tray, an automatic separating and embedding machine was proposed in this study. The machine includes a separation mechanism for soft potted-seedling tray based on finger-clamp vacuum suction cup and a separation mechanism for hard tray based on linkage mechanism combined with a lifting platform, and by combining them to form a tray embedding mechanism. It can realize the fully automatic supply of potted-seedling trays at the front end of the rice potted-seedling production line by separating and embedding soft potted-seedling tray and hard tray one by one. Finite element analysis software ANSYS was used to analyze the horizontal deformation of the soft tray when it was lifted by vacuum suction cups. It was determined that 8 sets of vacuum suction cups were used and their layout was determined, so that the horizontal deformation of the soft potted-seedling tray during the lifting process was less than 0.1 mm. The kinematics of the linkage mechanism was analyzed by ADAMS. The optimal lifting height of the lifting platform and the opening and closing angle of the linkage were determined. The feasibility of the method was verified by the experimental prototype. The experimental results show that the proposed machine can successfully separate and embed the soft potted-seedling tray and hard tray.
