Abstract. King grass is a giant grass commonly planted in China, and it is widely used as a new type of forage resource. The physical and mechanical properties of king grass stalks are the basis for the development of harvesting machinery and processing equipment. The paper takes a new type of king grass collected from Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province as the research object. The tensile and shear characteristics of the stalk were measured by the universal testing machine, and the relationship between the mechanical characteristics and the moisture content was obtained. The results showed that the tensile elastic modulus and shear strength of King grass stalk increased with the decrease of moisture content. The moisture content in the tensile elastic modulus is 7997.11Mpa at 40%-50%, and the maximum shear strength is 61.76Mpa.
