Abstract. Fatal farm accidents have posed a serious health hazard around the world. In 2016, 312 fatal farm accidents occurred in Japan while 417 farm workers died from work-related injuries in the United States. Among fatal farm accidents, tractor overturning is the leading cause of death for farmers. Numerical investigation with a driving simulator can help with safety and cost by clarifying the cause of overturning accidents under various conditions. Nonlinear dynamics such as jumping or bouncing and sliding is a primary cause of tractor overturning accidents. In this study, a tractor driving simulator is applied to the nonlinear dynamics of an agricultural tractor. CarSim®, which is a standard driving simulator, is used as a platform in this research. Numerical results reveal that the tractor driving simulator can reproduce nonlinear dynamics of a bouncing tractor and is a promising platform for investigating accidents.
