Development and application of animal building environmental control system

Abstract. The current environment monitoring of animal house in China still mostly depends on the experience and operation of farmers which may cause error and limit the development of animal production industry. Therefore, an intelligent environmental control system for animal house was developed based on ARM M3 single-chip microcomputer in this study. This system consisted of environmental control box, system software, server and mobile terminals. The environmental control box was composed of single-chip microcomputer, ferroelectric, SIM card module, relay, display screen, electric frequency converter and other electronic hardware components. This box had three functions including data collection, device control and data transmission and communication. This system integrated computer technologies with multi-sensors data fusion technology, to collect real-time data of temperature, relative humidity, light intensity, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in animal house. The box was connected to the server by socket. Environmental control equipment (e.g., draught fan) could be switched on/off automatically when actual environmental parameters exceed preset thresholds. Users could monitor and compare environmental data continuously and change parametric thresholds remotely on cell phone APP, thus realize the intelligent management of livestock farming environment. This system had been applied in several livestock farms and achieved the functions in practice. In addition, this system was developed based on the local farming practices and climate, therefore, could be suitable for most of the animal houses in China and provided an important reference for future environment control research.
