Data evaluation for tractor operation based on GNSS and multiple sensors

Abstract.

Recently, there is a tendency to introducing “Information and Communication technology” (ICT) into agriculture to make farmers be able to manage more precisely. GNSS oriented smart agriculture systems is currently designed by our project and the smart tractor development is one of the key issue for the systems. The purpose of this study was developing a system of monitoring and mapping operational status of tractor and for evaluating field operations (i.e. tilling and paddling). Position information, fuel flow rate, velocity, engine rotational speed, PTO revolution speed and tilling load were measured by using GNSS and multiple sensors with 2Hz frequency. As a result of field test in 2017, total 73,758 of datasets were collected from 1.2ha (4 fields, 0.3ha respectively) paddy fields. Topsoil depth and tilling load map was created on the field map and the variability of TD and tilling load was revealed, farmer operated in response to site-specific variability with their intuition. In this study possibility and necessity that not only information from one machine, but also the combination of information from multiple machinery was concluded.
