PROCESS OPTIMIZATION OF COLLEGE HYBRID SOLAR POWER SYSTEMPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: 2018 ASABE Annual International Meeting 1800650.(doi:10.13031/aim.201800650)Authors: Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi, Babajide Akanbi Adelekan Keywords: Optimization, Hybrid Solar, College Café, Energy Requirement Abstract. The study was carried out at the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor plantation Ibadan, Nigeria and focuses on the resuscitation and optimization of the college café hybrid solar power system. Material used includes the solar energy panels, power mains, charge controller, power inverter, automatic voltage regulator and a 12V 100A deep cycle batteries. Three approaches were adopted to achieve the aim of the study. This includes audit and stakeholder interview, solution design, stage proof of concept. Load analysis was carried out for the college café which was used to design energy requirement for the college café. An existing technical mathematical model developed by Bogdan and Salameh (2003) and Bin et al (2013) was employed to optimize the system. Appling this method to the modified hybrid solar system, the simulation result shows that optimal configuration which meet the desired system reliability requirement with the lowest loss of power supply probability of 0.2 obtainable from a system comprising of 20 solar panels of 185W each and the storage capacity of 86V 200A.
