Abstract. Pomelo (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr.) is wildly planted in China and southeast Asian and really popular because of rich nutrition and superior health benefits. However, most of the Pomelo fruit is yield in small or medium orchard among hills and/or mountains area which lead to all handle and grading work done manually according experience and feeling of the worker. To provide an affordable mechanization grading method, the modular weight grading system was presented in this work. Consisting of weighting sensor, PLC, control circle, transmission mechanism, real-time display screen and other auxiliary parts, the system could grade fruit into 6 levels according weight and output the measured values and operating parameters. 93 pomelo samples weight of 900 – 2000 g were used to test the system in different speed. The results shown that the classification accuracy was 92.5%, the weighting error was less than 5% and the processing speed could be 6000 fruit per hour. Since farmers can choose to buy the entire system or one of the core components, this affordable design could effectively improve the processing efficiency in orchard and production benefit of pomelo industry.
