Abstract. High pressure (HP) treatment is a newly developed technology in wood densification industry. The treatment parameters (holding time and pressure level) and environment conditions (temperature and relative humidity) have great influences in the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of wood. In order to keep the quality and improve the efficiency, it is highly important to study the sorption behavior and obtain a best set of parameters to predict the wood stability for its transportation and storage. In this study, equilibrium moisture content of paulownia wood after HP-treatment (30, 90, 150MPa for 3, 30, 300s) were evaluated at 20, 30, 40°C. Moisture adsorption and desorption characteristics of all treated samples from each group were analyzed by response surface methodology. Two quadratic polynomial models with good prediction performance, were calibrated to describe the relationship between HP-treatment parameters, environmental conditions and equilibrium moisture contents.
