Abstract. Sampling bags are typically used for odor sampling and odor analysis by Dynamic Olfactometry methods, while the sampling bags were often criticized and therefore optimized for odor sampling due to low recovery of odorants. This study investigated the immediate loss of odorants after the sampling bags were filled. Various types of sampling bags (including Tedlar, Teflon, BOPET, Fluode and 3-L Polyester non-smelly bags) with different size were tested, with pre-flushing by target sample for selected odorants typically found in intensive livestock facilities. The results indicated that the immediate loss of odorants could be significant depending on odorant types and bag types, while the pre-flushing by target air could significantly improve the recovery of some odorants in sampling bags.
