Abstract. The low degree of mechanization of the Chinese medicinal materials restricts the development of the industry. Compared with other crops, there are a wide variety of Chinese medicinal materials, which can be divided into rhizomatous, flower, fruit and fungi. The medicinal parts of Chinese medicinal materials, the best harvest time and the content of the effective ingredients are different. Therefore, the harvest is carried out when the internal quality and the appearance quality are best. "Quality management of Chinese medicinal plants" (GAP) should be strictly enforced. In this paper, the harvest period, the way of harvest and the matters needing attention are summarized. The mechanized application of several typical Chinese medicinal materials was introduced. In view of the problems existing in the harvesting machinery, a new way of improvement is put forward. To achieve the purpose of solving the low efficiency and high cost of the Chinese medicinal materials. It lays the foundation for the manufacture and popularization of Chinese medicinal material harvesting machinery.
