Abstract. Onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal technologies are available to promote resource recovery operations, not just wastewater disposal. The new paradigm for onsite systems should consider these valuable tools for resource recovery. Onsite systems are available to promote widespread safe and sustainable water resource management efforts. This paper will describe some characteristics of alternative water sources, describe treatment and dispersal options that promote resource recovery and reuse, describe regulatory and compliance issues associated with reuse and finally describe management needs of the infrastructure supporting onsite efforts. Management is a critical component of a program and is vital to assure these alternatives are viewed as an essential component of infrastructure.
