Abstract. Mexico has 86 irrigation districts registered in the National Water Commission CONAGUA. The existing Districts irrigate 3.3 million of hectares in the country, the allocated water volume (WV) to the main channels are administered by CONAGUA. WV is measured by different types of metering structures. The Irrigation District Number 33 Estado de Mexico (ID33EM) is located to western part of the state of Mexico close to Michoacan State. ID33EM irrigates approximately 7000 hectares in three modules, Temascalcingo (TEM), Toxi (TOX) and Atlacomulco (AM). Water used in the District comes from Lerma River. In spite of District was constructed more than 50 years ago, its metering structures have not been working properly. Therefore, because of advantages of the Long-Throated Measuring Flumes (LTMF) in difficult conditions (Clemmens, et al. 2001), six LTMF were designed in its three modules to improve the quality of metering. Therefore, two LTMF structures were designed and constructed in both left and right sides of the main channels. The LTMF were designed using the Software WinFlume v.1.0 ®. TEM LTMF maximum capacities are: 4.0 m3 /s for Right Channel (RC) and 2.5 m3/s for left channel (LC), AM 0.5 m3/s, RC, 1.2 m3/s LC, TOX, 2.2m3/s RC, 0.45m3/s LC . The structures functioned adequately with modifications on the channels in spite of difficult conditions that were found to construct them all. The acquisition and processing data was done using ultrasonic level sensors, computer table and sending them by Satellite Remote Telemetry Unit to headquarters and worked properly.
