Abstract. In this paper, an autonomous lawn mowing robot was developed for reducing the manual labor and increasing working efficiency. The technical factors in terms of mechatronics systems on the robot and with the supervisor are justified, appraised and evaluated. The factors include electronic power system, cylinder mower unit, auto steer system, local positioning system, obstacle avoidance system, path planning, and human machine interface. In particular, the obstacle avoidance system is simulated and comprehensively evaluated with MATLAB in this report.
