Abstract..Wheat-Straw paintings are craft objects made by shaping straw into patterns and using pyrography technique to representational images. As a Chinese folk traditional decorative art and popular item for tourists to China, the making process of Wheat-Straw painting include a myriad of procedures. It is so complicated and fuzzy that until now the operation mainly depends on the experience of craftsmen. Now it is important to achieve technical standardization during the making process and realize the transition from qualitative judgment to quantitative research, which is helpful to popularize and inherit the straw painting. In this thesis, after analyzing technological process of wheat-straw painting, it is found that ‘clearing straw intimae‘ and ‘pyrography‘ were two key steps. The two experiments both ‘influence of moisture content on clearing straw intimae‘ and ‘variation of relationship between pyrography pen‘s voltage and point touch pressure during pyrography process‘ have been done. From the first experiment it is known that moisture content in the range of 8.85%-20.45% was ideal when clearing straw intimae. The second experiment show that the variation of point touch pressure could affect pyrography color hardly, but pyrography pen‘s voltage was the main influencing factor and the appropriate working value is within the range of 80-120V. At last this research will be benefit for standardization, parameterization and mechanization of the wheat-straw painting‘s technological process.
