Abstract. Hydrologic modeling is often used to evaluate and assess drainage management practices. Pre-processing hydro-meteorological and observed gaged precipitation and flow data for input to hydrologic models can be significantly time intensive. Likewise the use of gage-adjusted radar rainfall can significantly enhance the estimate of basin precipitation, both spatially and temporarily, but it too requires a fair amount of pre-processing. Tools such as HEC-DSSVue and HEC-GridUtil, which may not be widely known outside the Army Corps of Engineers, greatly facilitate pre-processing these time-series data. This presentation introduces the capacities of these tools to efficiently handle pre-processing tasks and gives an example via GSSHA, a distributed rainfall runoff model. This presentation may reference site specific information for the State of Minnesota but methods can be applied anywhere there is data available.
