Abstract. Providing adequate thermal environment is a challenge in areas of hot climate, in this way the development of alternative materials to improve animal welfare in terms of thermal conditions increased in the past years. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of green cover (Bamboo roof) in the thermal environment of two prototypes. It was collected data from dry bulb temperature (Tdb), relative humidity (RH) and black globe temperature (BGT) of the environment, and internal (Ti) and external (Te) temperature of the roof. The following analyses were performed: Black globe temperature and humidity index (BGHI), Enthalpy (H), and Roof temperature gradient. The response variables were evaluated under three different thermal conditions: a) Morning, b) Noon, and c) Afternoon. It was observed that for the BGHI, the green roof provided better thermal conditions than the conventional roof during the morning period. The temperature gradient between internal and external roof surface was significantly different (Tukey Kramer test, alpha level = 0.05) during the noon period, where the bamboo roof presented higher temperature gradient than the conventional roof.
