Abstract. In order to study the effect of mesh rollers of different porosities on separation effect of seed cotton and plastic mulch remnant separator and select the optimal mesh rollers, four kinds of mesh with different porosities were selected. These porosities were measured using imaging method. And they were 37 %, 42 %, 59 % and 65 % respectively. Simulation control group was added with 70 % porosity. Geometric models of varied porosities were built by AutoCAD software and GAMBIT software. The airflow of separation chamber were simulated and analyzed by FLUENT software when large and small mesh rollers were rotating. In order to evaluate the effect of different porosities on the separation accurately, the data of 15 test points in the key area of the separation chamber were compared and analyzed with different porosities. Considering limit of cottonseed size and adhesive force of mesh roller for plastic mulch remnant, the 65 % porosity was determined as the optimal porosity in the four types of mesh.
