Abstract. With the development of rice plugged seedling cultivation technology in the factory, the plugged seedling transplanting technology with high efficiency, low cost, high yield has been rapidly promoted. The seed metering device is the key to affect the sowing precision. In this paper the important factors to affect the sowing performance was attained based on the theory analysis on the seed filling theory of a cell wheel rice seed precision metering device for plugged seedlings. The conventional rice varieties used in the northeast of China were chosen for the testing study. The optimum parameters for the metering device were obtained by orthogonal experimental design and the optimization was verified by tests . The results showed that the rate of qualified sowing(2-4 seeds per cell) for yanfeng188 was > 90% when the diameter of the cell, the filling angle of the seeds and the speed of the cell wheel were 13mm,30º and 8r/min, respectively. The metering device can meet the precise sowing requirement.
