Interaction of mixed eggs in different development stages: hatch time and chick quality

Abstract. This study investigated the interaction of mixed eggs in different development stages, including hatch time and chick quality. A total of 400 marked Hyline-Brown eggs were randomly divided into early incubation (EI) and late incubation (LI) Video cameras recorded the hatching process for labeling the hatch times of each chicks. Our results showed that the eggs from MI treatment hatched average 6.5 hours later compared with EI and LI eggs, whereas the hatch window (time difference between the hatch times of the first and the last hatched chicks) was 7.5 hours shorter. And no significant differences 5) were found in chick quality of chicks from three treatments both at day 0 and day 7. The results suggested that the hatching synchrony was associated with delay of the whole treatments. The mixed eggs of different embryonic developments may influence each other via sound, altering the hatch window but not the chick quality.
