Abstract. High-speed photography technology was used to analyse the seeds flowing trend, flowing rule and flowing posture in filling process for the cell wheel precision metering device. The high-speed photographs showed that seeds movement in the seed box had certain rule in stratified flow and when the inclined angle of the section of the seeds layer was close to the natural repose angle of the seeds, the inclined section of the seeds layer was nearly stable.Seeds in the lower part of the cell wheel mainly flowed towards the filling zone with erect or oblique state. The filling performance was lower. Filling mainly occurred around the control board where the seeds flowed strongly. The upper free layer seeds around the control board filled into the cells in their long axis direction along the cell wheel axle. The position of the control board affected the filling performance,so the factor should be considered and optimally designed to improve the performance of the filling process. The research results provided the basis for the shape and size design of the cell in the cell wheel type seeder.
