Abstract. Agricultural tractors are generally designed with empirical method, because it is not easy to measure precise load cycle under various working conditions and soil types. Especially, power transmission gear system which took large proportion of the tractor price is most important. Therefore, alternative design methods using a gear design program must be needed for optimal design of tractors. In this paper, PTO gear pair of tractor was analyzed by gear simulation program. The PTO gear pair is made with SCr415 alloy steel with the treatment of carburizing and quenching. PTO driving gear under various load conditions was used, and the load was measured during actual field works of rotary tillage. Safety factor and fatigue life were simulated and analyzed under various load conditions of rotary tillage. The simulation results showed that PTO gear pair was safely designed because safety factor was greater than 1.0 under various load conditions. PTO gears were analyzed by ISO 6336 standards. As a result, the study suggested that the PTO gear pair should be optimally designed using gear design program.
