Study on the influencing factors of soil-root composite shear strength

Abstract. Soil-root composites exist in the soil layer of the degraded natural grassland. The paper aimed to find the influencing factors of the soil-root composite shear strength and the relationship between them. In order to study the influencing factors of soil-root composite, the orthogonal experiment was designed and direct shear test done. Shear strengths were compared and evaluated. Results showed that the density, moisture content and roots content all affected shear strength, and the shear strength changed with the influencing factors‘ variation. Interaction function effects existed between the three factors. The density and moisture content had a significant effect on the internal friction angle and cohesion. The internal friction angle showed a significant correlation relationship with density and the interaction function of density and moisture content at 5% level of significance(P<0.05).There was a regression function between the internal friction angle, density and moisture content.
