An online detection and processing system for contaminants on chicken carcass surface based on multispectral imaging technology was designed and developed. The system consists of three parts: image acquisition, image processing and spray control. Two cameras with optical filter are triggered by the photoelectric switch to capture the chicken carcass pictures with 500 nm and 710 nm wavebands. The industrial personal computer (IPC) is used to process the acquired multispectral images, such as image filtering, thresholding, corrosion, swell, hole filling etc. to detect surface residual contaminants of chicken carcass. The chicken carcass with contaminants on the surface was cleaned and disinfected in the spraying system operated by PLC. The test results show that the system operates stably and reliably and is able to achieve the functions such as online capturing and multispectral image processing as well as inspection and processing of surface contaminants, with the inspection accuracy rate of 91.6%.
