Abstract. According to the theory of automobile operation, the engine can achieve good fuel economy by controlling gear ratio of transmission enable the engine to work with high efficiency based on engine power and road condition. The Electronic Control Unit of Automated Mechanical Transmission (AMT) determines the engine power and economic gear ratio according to the signals of vehicle speed, the torque and speed of engine acquired by the sensors and then changes the gear. This paper studies a shifting control strategy of AMT to ensure the good fuel economy of engine. The optimizing economic performance shift law was analyzed. An optimal work model of AMT was discussed. And economic parameters were deduced and software was developed. Through the simulation and experimental verification, the results show that the method is efficient to improve the fuel economy.
