Abstract. Batch lab-scale anaerobic co-digestion of dairy manure (DM) with potato waste (PW) was conducted at three different temperature ranges (thermophilic (55-57 ºC)), mesophilic (35-37 ºC), and psychrophilic (20-28 ºC) temperatures). The tests were conducted at five DM:PM mixing ratios ( 100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 60:40, and 40:60) on volatile solids (VS) basis. Total VS for all ratios was kept constant at 165 g VS/experiment. A hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 30 days was selected for each set of experiment. During the 30 days of batch digestion, the highest cumulative biogas production (CBP) of 182 L was achieved for the thermophilic co-digestion (TD) at the mixing ratio of 80:20, 75 L for the mesophilic co-digestion (MD) at the mixing ratio of 90:10, and 33 L, for the psychrophilic digestion (PD) of DM alone (the mixing ratio of 100:0), respectively. The highest cumulative methane yields were 93 L, 41 L and 8 L for the mixing ratio of 80:20 at the TD, the mixing ratio of 90:10 at the MD, and the mixing ratio of 100:0 at the PD, respectively. The greatest total VS destruction was occurred during the TD. A lowest pH of 6.0 was recorded during the TD at the DM:PW ratio of 80:20. The pH was always greater than 6.5 for the ratio of 90:10 at mesophilic temperatures (MT) and the ratio of 100:0 at psychrophilic temperatures (PT). Total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and volatile fatty acids (VFA) were measured weekly. The stability of the reactors was justified with the pH, NH3-N, and VFA values. This study showed good stability of co-digestion of DM with PW. Based on the results, the ratio of 80:20 at thermophilic temperatures (TT), ratio of 90:10 at MT and the ratio of 100:0 at PT are recommended. Thermophilic co-digestion of DM and PW shows better performance than mesophilic and psychrophilic co-digestion in terms of biogas, methane production, and total VS destruction.
