Abstract. Presented in this report are new procedures for calculating fundamental design properties for both spliced and unspliced mechanically-laminated (i.e., mechlam) wood assemblies including: flexural rigidity values for bending about the X-X axis and about the Y-Y axis, minimum flexural rigidity values for calculation of column stability factors for bending about the X-X axis and about the Y-Y axis; adjusted design moment for bending about the X-X axis and about the Y-Y axis, adjusted design force for axial tension, and adjusted design force for axial compression. This material is proceeded by an overview of current design requirements as outlined in ANSI/ASAE EP 559.1 Design Requirements and Bending Properties for Mechanically-Laminated Wood Assemblies and from Section 15.3 of the ANSI/AWC National Design Specifications (NDS) for Wood Construction.
