000 birds per batch were grown annually. Birds reached approximately 1.8 kg carcass weight after the 38 days growing period. House was pre-heated to 33°C when birds arrived and temperature was decreased stepwise to 20°C by the end of the growing period. House was heated mainly on renewable energy. Heating was needed year-round. Heating energy consumption during the broiler batch and pre-heating were on average 1.34 kWh per 1 kg of carcass weight and 64.4 MWh per batch. Heating energy consumption varied a lot between batches and growing weeks. Age of bird and outdoor temperature had a big effect on energy use. A large amount of heat was lost through the ventilation especially at the end of growing period during cold seasons.
