Abstract. Evaluation of Pulse Width Modulation Sprays for Spray Quality

In this study sprays developed from a pulse-width modulation control system were used for evaluation. Sprays from hydraulic, pre-orifice, and air-inclusion nozzles were used for evaluation of spray quality at various duty cycles. Video taken with a high speed camera was used to capture visual aspects of spray pattern development and collapse. Study shows that droplet spectrum, VMD, becomes more variable with a decrease in duty cycle. A corresponding increase in driftable fines are present from nozzles pulsing at a low duty cycle.
