Abstract. Exposure to mechanical vibration while operating vibrating tools, vibrating machinery or vibrating workpieces can cause temporary discomfort or permanent disorders on the blood vessels, nerves, joints and muscles. This paper presents an iOS application developed for smartphones to measure and analyze the hand-arm vibration transmitted from hand operated power tools and machinery. The vibration levels were measured, analyzed, displayed, and recorded by the iOS application in real-time. The measurements were made by attaching the smartphone to the back of the operator’s hand during the measurements. The smartphone application measures and analyzes the frequency spectra of the vibration at different working conditions while the hands of the operator are exposed to mechanical vibration. The application provides a relatively low-cost and versatile method for initial assessment of hand-arm vibration which can be used to educate, train and increase the awareness of people on hand-arm vibration induced disorders and their prevention..
