Abstract. Guangdong is the main paddy rice production area in South China. Due to the unique topographic and geographic conditions, double cropping systems, climate, and other factors, it is also one of the weakest regions for paddy mechanized farming. For improving technology systems of paddy mechanized farming in Guangdong, based on investigations and expert consultation, this paper summarized the current technology systems, analyzed the principle factors affecting the formation of technology system, and forecasted the development trend. Results show that the main constraints of mechanized farming technologiesâ€™ promotion are small plots, expensive mechanical operations and machinery, traditional habits, weak tractor road construction, imperfect promotion effect and so on. Rice varieties and natural disasters, land and infrastructure, organization development, workers and coordination of different departments and support measures are the key factors influencing the technology system formation. Mechanized seedling nursery, transplanting and drying are the key technologies promoted in the next three years. Under the market economy, the government should take effective measures on expanding the farming scale, promoting sound development of farming service organizations, strengthening the infrastructure construction, developing the ordinary farmersâ€™ mechanization sense gradually, cooperating with the agricultural department on agronomy, making scientific supporting policies of agricultural machinery purchasing, farming operation and fuel use. And then the technology system of paddy mechanized farming can step into a self-improving development track.
