Using laser sensor for measuring crop conditions in precision agriculture

Abstract. The laser sensor is widely used in agriculture application. A laser sensor, SICK LMS 511 Lite, is introduced in this paper. The use methods, data processing program and calculation method of the coordinates are described. The application specific examples are given in crop height measurement based UGV system, citrus shape scanning and 3D model building, and drifting detecting and distribution of spraying droplets. All of these would provide a reference for future applications in precision agriculture.
